Formulas: Gross WPM = (characters typed / 5) / minutes. Net WPM (shown as WPM) = gross WPM – (incorrect characters / minutes), never below 0. CPM = characters typed / minutes. Accuracy = correct characters / characters typed x 100. Errors are incorrect characters left in the text when the test ends.

Frequently asked questions
What is a typing speed test?
A typing speed test measures how fast and how accurately you type a given text. Results are usually reported in words per minute (WPM) and accuracy percentage.
How is WPM calculated?
One “word” is counted as five characters, including spaces. Gross WPM is characters typed divided by five, divided by minutes. Net WPM subtracts errors per minute.
What is a good typing speed?
Many adults type around 40 WPM. Around 60 to 80 WPM is fast for office work, and higher is possible with practice. Accuracy matters as much as speed.
How is typing accuracy calculated?
Accuracy is correct characters divided by total characters typed, shown as a percentage. For example, 190 correct out of 200 typed is 95%.
Can I take a typing test on my phone?
Yes. The test works with on-screen keyboards on iPhone and Android. Results on a phone are usually lower than on a physical keyboard.
Is this typing speed test free?
Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up, and runs entirely in your browser.
Is my typed text stored or uploaded?
No. Your text stays in your browser. Only your best scores, recent results and settings are saved locally on your device, and you can reset them anytime.
How can I improve my typing speed?
Practise a few minutes daily, keep your eyes on the screen, use all your fingers with a relaxed posture, and slow down enough to stay accurate. Speed follows accuracy.
